The purpose of the SMNE Age National Performance Squad is to improve elite racing skills. The program targets the differences in knowledge and skill between National Age qualifiers, finalists and place getters.
The squad will comprise at least 2 race clinics over the year with coaches and swimmers from SMNE clubs training together, to share skills and resources, to develop learning points for each swimmer.
A squad swimmers are also encouraged to participate in the swim league.
The end state for all swimmers should be to improve ranking at the following Age National Championship, with the intent of making finals.
Selection criteria: Able-bodied swimmers who competed at the 2019 Australian Age Championships in an
individual event but did not swim in a Final or who have a Nationals Qualifying team and will compete this year or next
Open Water Swimmers that competed in an individual event at the 2019 Australian Age Open Water Championships and are not selected in a SNSW State Squad.
Activities (tbc): 2 x morning training sessions over the year focusing on ‘finding an extra second’+ Eligible for Swim League.

The number of places will be limited and selection is a competitive process.
The swimmers will be nominated by parents, themselves, SMNE Coaches, the SMNE Development Convenor or Club Presidents. If you are interested, please contact Development Convenor.
Final selection will be confirmed by the SMNE selection committee, based on swimmers PBs at official meets, targeting National Qualifiers but will not be limited to swimmers who have already competed at Nationals. Younger swimmers with skills that better fit the SMNE Age National Performance Squad than other SMNE squads may be invited to the squad, or to participate in some elements of it in addition to their regular development squad.
All SMNE coaches may participate, though the focus will be on early and mid career coaches of elite swimmers from SMNE clubs and coaches of swimmers in attendance. These coaches have the necessary expertise for intensive teaching and will benefit from an opportunity to collaborate and work with SNSW resources.
$50 will be payable if your nomination is successful.
