It was non-stop action at SOPAC on Saturday 12th March, when 86 MNE swimmers took to the pool to compete with 776 other swimmers and 12 Areas across NSW in an age by age, gender by gender battle of the 50m sprint events. We may have had a much smaller team than usual (mainly due to Covid) but they were on fire nevertheless.
We kicked off the morning session with the Butterfly with our swimmers taking out 2 Gold, 3 Silver, 1 bronze and 10 other top 10 finishes. Next up was the Freestyle with 3 Gold, 3 Silver, 4 Bronze and 13 other top 10 finishes. We completed the morning session with the Freestyle Relays achieving 3 Gold and a 4th.
The afternoon session kicked off with the Medley Relays with our teams earning 1 Gold, 2 Silver and a disappointing DQ. Following the Relays the Breaststroke took off with our swimmers achieving 2 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze and 7 other top 10 finishes.
Our last event of the day was the 50m Backstroke where our swimmers took out 2 Silver, 3 Bronze and 11 other top 10 finishes.
Overall, our swimmers’ massive efforts earned MNE 1672 points, just missing out on 3rd place by a very small margin.
In summary:
11 x Gold
12 x Silver
9 x Bronze
64 x Top 10 Placings
Congratulations to all our swimmers; you performed well, behaved beautifully and looked superb in your blue uniform & caps. Huge thanks to our 14 Coaches who gave up their Saturday to lead the team and to our Team Managers, Ariel, Katie and Sarah. Without your help it would have been chaos!
See you next year!
