The 2025 Speedo Sprint Heats were held at SOPAC on the 1st of February within the SMNE Sprint meet where we had 500 athletes competing in over 2000 individual events and relays. 14 clubs were represented from MNE along with over 50 trial swimmers.
We were fortunate to have a number of our area senior swimmers mentor and help out all the young swimmers, many of whom had never raced before and were quite nervous. Many swimmers were able to overcome their initial fears and excelled in their races because of these older mentors who showed them that competition swimming isn’t just about medals and ribbons, it’s about having fun and making new friends.
Following this meet, 100 MNE swimmers were selected to compete at the Speedo Sprint Finals on Saturday 1st of March. These swimmers competed in 196 races and 8 relays. The SMNE team consisted of 55 girls and 45 boys between the ages of 8 and 13 from 14 Clubs in the MNE Area.
Our highly successful Team in blue managed to win the medal count with 18 Gold medals, 11 Silver medals, and 7 Bronze medals. There were numerous top 10 placings, National times and too many PBs to count! In addition our powerful relay teams won 2 Gold 1 Silver and 1 Bronze in the relays.
The battle between 11 other Areas across NSW was exciting to the very end with the final overall result of 3rd place, a massive effort from the smallest metropolitan Area in NSW.
