MNE Shines at SOPAC

The Metro North East (MNE) Swim Team delivered an outstanding performance yesterday at the iconic Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPAC), competing against 11 other Areas from across NSW in a highly competitive inter-area meet.

A strong team of 103 swimmers, aged 8 to 13 years, represented Metro North East with determination and pride. From the opening events, it was clear the day would be filled with spirited racing and personal triumphs, as swimmers consistently pushed themselves to achieve personal best times.

Shortly after the meet began, an unexpected 15-minute fire alarm delay briefly interrupted proceedings. However, officials and organisers responded swiftly, ensuring the competition resumed smoothly. Despite the disruption, the meet ran efficiently and concluded on schedule, a testament to the professionalism of all involved.

In the pool, SMNE rose to the challenge. The team secured an impressive medal haul of:

  • 2 Gold
  • 10 Silver
  • 7 Bronze

The relays were a particular highlight of the day, showcasing the team’s depth and unity. MNE proudly claimed silver in:

  • Boys 8–10 years 4x50m Freestyle Relay
  • Boys 13 & Under 4x50m Medley Relay
  • Boys 8–10 years 4x50m Medley Relay

Each relay swim demonstrated exceptional teamwork, composure, and competitive spirit under pressure.

When the final points were tallied, Metro North East finished 4th overall on the pointscore, an outstanding achievement against strong opposition from across the state.

A huge thank you must also go to our dedicated team of 16 coaches, whose guidance, preparation and unwavering support helped each swimmer perform at their best. From fine-tuning race skills to calming pre-race nerves behind the blocks, their leadership played a vital role in the team’s success.

Beyond the medals and placings, the true highlight of the day was the resilience, sportsmanship, and effort shown by every swimmer. With countless personal bests achieved, the future looks incredibly bright for this talented group.

Well done to all our swimmers, you did the Area proud.
